Working together for standards The Web Standards Project

The XTech 2007 conference is taking place at the Novotel Paris Tour Eiffel in Paris next week from the 15th to the 18th of May.

On the first day of the conference, Molly and Edd have organised the first annual Browser, Standards and Interop Summit to run all day in parallel to the conference tracks. Molly describes the day thusly:

The day will be open to observation for interested journalists (particularly bloggers, podcasters and videocasters) based on available space. Participants will include representatives from Opera Software, Mozilla, Microsoft Corporation and others. It’s an opportunity to make voices heard in a more neutral, open discussion outside the vendor or standards groups themselves.

This event is free to attend—you can thank Molly and Edd who are splitting the costs of hiring the room. This is a great opportunity to get together with the people who not only making the next generation of browsers but also driving future standards. If you can attend and contribute to the discussion, that would be great.

The hCalendar events on this page are using the hyphenated short-form of the datetime abbreviation pattern: YYYY-MM-DD. That’s not inaccessible.

Of course if we’re going to have a discussion defining what “accessible” means (as if it were something binary that’s either on or off) then that would be an interesting debate… for another time and place, not here.

The basic issue is the lack of true support to already existing standards. SyncML was a great idea, but I’ve yet to see an implementation that is ready for practical use.

Since I can’t attend, it would be greatd if somebody would ask that questions in the Q&A session.

Great idea to bring participants from Opera Software, Mozilla, Microsoft Corporation and others together. That is also what should happen with the browsers. They should join and create a standard so there won’t be major differences between them. The presentation may be different but the handling of for example frames must come much closer.
